Fed: Indigenous health should be top of priorities in 2000 AMA
The Australian Medical Association says indigenous health should be on top of the list
of priorities for Australians in the year 2000.
AMA federal president DAVID BRAND says the poor health record for indigenous Australians
continues to be a major blemish on the nation's health care report card.
Dr BRAND says evidence from New Zealand, Canada and the US shows that substantial improvements
in life expectancy of indigenous people can be achieved in just two or three short decades.
He also says it's a myth that more health dollars are spent on indigenous people than
the rest of the community.
