Qld: Public servant stole to fund staff christmas party

A Brisbane court's been told a former public servant stole $8,000 and used it to fund
the annual staff Christmas party.

Sixty-one-year-old NORMAN JOHN FILL, now a pensioner, has pleaded guilty in the District
Court in Brisbane to two counts of fraud in November 1999.

FILL was then employed by the Queensland Main Roads department and was the manager
of Beaudesert Bitumen Resources at Beaudesert, south of Brisbane.

The court's heard he received two cash payments totalling $8,000 from customers and
donated them to the social club fund.

It was used that year to allow staff and their families to spend a night at the Watermark
Hotel on the Gold Coast for the staff Christmas party.

Judge MANUS BOYCE has placed FILL on a $500 good behaviour bond and ordered he pay
compensation to Main Roads.
